Nathan Kohrs Updates

There’s a really vibe-y guitar shop in the village called Matt Umanov guitars. Lots of old guitars with almost enough character to match their price tags. They also carry new instruments, but most of the crowd who goes to Umanov’s is looking for something extra special….or at least looking to play something extra special and then pretend to want to “keep looking around”. A good friend of mine who has been dying to go to Umanov’s was in the city recently, and so we made the trip downtown. The shop is definitely as cool as everyone says it is…. great collection of vintage instruments, walls covered with autographed pictures of everyone from the Beatles to Steve Earle, and long-haired grungy looking cats keeping a watchful eye out over the guitars. As we walked toward the back of the store my friend, who was overcome with the excitement of finally being at Umanov’s, gleefully reached for an old telecaster to try out. As he turned to take it down, he liiiiightly brushed against another tele that was resting on a floor stand and sent it toppling into the guitar immediately next to it. Both guitars crashed to the floor in a very un-flattering way: cue grungy dudes. As I skulked away from the embarrassing scene, I heard my friend quickly mutter, “Woah, I’m real sorry man” to the very angry employee who was picking up the mess and probably contemplating throwing us out. A few seconds later, to my astonishment and in a display of pure guts, I heard my friend say to that same employee in a completely care-free tone , “Hey, you mind if I try out that amp over there?”

Classic guitars….classic times.
